A counterpoint can be raised as - cinema can be used as a medium to raise aspirations of the people, good qualities and a sense of psyops to improve the societies. All of that doesn't require you to do poverty porn.

I would appreciate if someone of ray caliber did aesthetically aspirational movies which pushed normies into a certain thought process. i feel the art in japan influenced their society a lot - of course society itself influenced it but let's pick something as a start.
i know it's tangent but it seems to be a good discussion point.
we know bollywood and media was influential, angry young man type movies, muh love stories instead of bollywood writers fantasizing about rape scenes focused more on stories which were more ghibli liek or aesthetics wise, or a towards shaping the society in other manner we would have better result.
there seems to be clear dearth of such movies. it doesn't help that successive bollywood writers, directors carried a sense of apathy towards society so on. even if they didn't they were focused on too much in present and too little on what it could have been.
