Heard a few Chinese doctoral students on the bus talking about a paper published in a highly prestigious journal for physics by an Indian-sounding guy. Googled the name to find out he is a researcher at TIFR.

Also academic research in science and specially technology has long died, Industry drives both of them actually.
Engineers working at companies like Neuralink, SpaceX, TSMC, ASML, Lam Research, etc have contributed more to cutting edge research than any academic at any college in Lundia.
Even in US and Europe, most top tier research is carried out through industrial partnerships.
Do you know Apple's M series chips were designed by a research group at UC Berkley?
