Depends on your Varna. Read shruties if you are brahmin, train in martial art if you are Kshatriya and if you are Vaishya, get into trade. It's pretty simple over all.
If you want a guideline

After you wake up, bathe, worship the sun, and afterwards repeat any suitable verse thrice. Try to not be driven by sexual needs. That is tough as well, in this day and age, but try to think before you act, if this is what your ancestors will approve of.

He doesn't have to, truth is yajnopavitam and it's samskara varies by region and branch too. If he is a specific kind of baniya or rajput he needs to talk to his vachak or ancestors. Learn some kind of languages they had (both Raju's and Baniyas had cryptic languages) and do his best to learn their trade or martial skills. Their are also bunch of other rules, don't tap your feet or shake your leg like a child, it is unfitting for someone with the thread and so on. It's mostly restrictions on things you can't do since you discarded your prior Shudra status.
