Ramayana is about how an ideal Kshatriya should live. Mahabharata is about Kshatriyahood in practical terms. All major characters and heroes and even villains are either Kshatriya, or Brahmin who fulfill a Kshatriya role.
Every single deity takes on a Kshatriya avatar to actively take part in mortal affairs. The only times they take avatar in another varna is to teach Kshatriyas some lesson, such as becoming Chandāla to test humility etc.
