Training:
>IFS(Indian Foreign Services) recruits through UPSC CSE exam
>IFS for the year 2026 has 16 General vacancies(Total-37)
>IFS afsars are trained at LBSNAA, Mussoorie and SSIFS, New Delhi.
>During their training program, IFS afsars meet VVIPs (President, Vice President, Prime Minister, External Affairs Minister and the Foreign Secretary)
>Depending on their compulsory foreign language chosen, they'll start the training at that country's embassy as a third secretary. Upon learning the language, they pass the CFL exam by MoD and become second secretary.
>Entire trainng period ranges from 2 year 3 months to 3 year 3 months. Harder languages like Russian, Japanese and Mandarin take one year extra. These will have no effect on the IFS afsar's promotion
