if you had a big car that can fit a lot of things inside and you would use that car to visit other cities and sleep in the car for a night or two, what would you make sure to bring along?

i try to collect my experience doing a bit of van life over the last few years as to not repeat mistakes.

one thing that immedeatly comes to mind is clothes.

ALWAYS HAVING EXTRA CLOTHING is so nice, that way i can spontaneously exercise or skate and then afterwards i don't have to sit in the sweaty clothes.

and then i have little towels that i could use to dry the sweat or make the towel wet and wash myself with it quickly, all while i have a fan blowing at me that runs with my tool-battery system in the privacy of my little backroom, that nobody can peek into easily from outside.

same with jacket. when it is way colder then i thought, it is nice to have a spare jacket always available.

same with umbrella.

same with raincoat.

same with rubber boots.

same with extra blanket.

same with extra fuel.

is nice to be prepared for sheit. i tried the minimalism but i wanted tools.

>food

i was fortunate to find a small cooler box that can use the car's 12v battery from the cigarette lighter socket to keep food cool for a ridiculous low price. i have been using it for ~3 years and i barely turn it on. i just bring frozen berries along and frozen smoothie and that way the thing stays cold for 3 days already without me having to power it.

i like to buy fresh stuff from the place i arrive at, bringing very little food along.

i'll probably just bring lots of banana along in the future so i can always have a ripe one.

>basic hygiene stuff

i wash myself with the same liquid that i use to clean my windshield 😅. 75% water, 25% iso-alcohol (with 99% strength). other then that i have q-tips, basic first-aid stuff (bandaid, disinfectants, etc). i have a ecologically harmless soap that i use to wash with a little spraybottle of water above a drain in the street. i wash my hands over street drains with soap all the time, i have never seen anyone else do this.

>my laptop, phone and a couple powerbanks

yeah they have good quality chargers that connect to the car battery via cigarette socket. i even have a little wifi router that supplies internet to me, usb powered.

>yukari

rice seasoning?

>Yea ig that's all one needs

one nice thing i have found that i am bringing along is a life straw. does't cost a lot and it is said to make drinking any water safe.

that'd be kind of cool, not buying water anymore but instead just drinking the water i find. i never used it, i should play with it otherwise i don't know how it works if shit hits the fan.

>dumbells,

i actually bring those along for skating purposes. i also have a weighted west and these weights that go around the wrists, which are especially nice for skating. they are heavy but also soft.

>books

i've been having a hard time reading in the last few years. i don't want physical books but i have not succeeded in finding a device on which i like to read. it just feels tedious and uncomfortable, i love it so much when i can have an audiobook instead, read by the author.

>a baseball bat/iron rod(for defense),

i look like a bum, unkempt beard, with a poverty headwrap, people usually don't bother me, except for women who are lonely. poverty is the best defense.

>packaged food.

i'm losing the willingness to keep shelf-stable food because that way i feel like having to eat it when it inevitably expires. what i do bring along is juice boxes though the difference in quality between fresh fruit juice and store bought juice is so alarming, i might not even buy packaged juice anymore.

>shaver

oh yeah so you can look for your job interview 🤣

real vanlife for more then just a few days i have not graduated to but what i can say what has worked really nice for me is just picking a city, driving to it and then living there for 1-3 days. go to the skateparks, check out the local markets, look at the businesses, look at old parts of cities from castle-age.

last year i brought an electric scooter along which is such a fun way to go in a new city. but i found it difficult to transport it without it being in the way all the time. i found quite the overcomplicated way to put furniture in it and now that it is in, i don't want to change a thing, though i would do it better if i had the chance to do it again.

some talented anon actually drew this countryball picture for me many years ago. the van is a bit longer and a bit taller. i can stand up in it comfortably and that taught me that being a short person is not a disadvantage everywhere because if i was shorter, i could have chosen a smaller vehicle and still managed to stand up in it and also sleep in it sideways, making better use of the limited room inside.
