Small hindu kingdoms of that time were much more focused on culture than muslim empires.
It only changed when Marathas adopted muslim way, you have to be barbarian to fight against barbarians.

Marathas won due to excellent leadership of shivaji, guerilla warfare aided by terrain of deccan(mughals being horse archers couldnt use their tactics in that deccan) and expanded by bhimtadhi horses created by crossing imported arabian horses with local ponies. It had nothing to do with muh islam warrior religion. The moment turkic superiority in warfare ended so did islamic expansion.
