>prakrit is not a single language saar dyaush once tweeted about it that's all i know
He talked about this exactly that he spoke magadhi prakrit and it could be easily reconstructed and it could reveal a lot of vital info but pajeet survey of pajeetia doesn't care

some linguistic anon might know how truthful is that we don't about the last part about reconstruction. though i agree about his generic comment that our 'indologist' have not been interested in actually learning rather agenda peddling.
we have prakrit written in brahmi coins being found in as far as sri lanka dating to almost very early times. there are some very interesting theories about it but i am not 100% certain on those.
coming to ashokan inscription this is not a controversial opinion, he had inscriptions in native language even gupta era inscriptions had information in greek and sanskrit in case of ashoka native and other languages.
i have not explored individual edicts beyond summary reading in sanskrit. i do know brahmi script so maybe i can try writing in devnagari for anons.

>yaudheya ganasya jaya
sanskrit was official language based on their coins atleast.
>common tongue
some variant of prakrit.
they were rounded up by Gupta who had sanskrit as official language. yaudheya did interact and fight for other kingdoms too before taken over by guptas. so they may know more than two languages.

but how can a non-brahmin tribe speak sunskeet ? when even Jains and Buddhists used Pali etc

they were interesting group for me because they were akin to spartans.
>knowing sanskrit
there are inscriptions from mauryan era where they mention blessings of brahmins etc. when chief for yaudheya was selected.
they worshipped kartikeya. from mauryans to guptas the influence of brahmins in official mandates would be natural.

>they worshipped kartikeya
they worshipped a 6 headed diety called Mahasena/Maaseno (means Great Army) which was later appropriated by the Brahmins and got transfigured into Kartikeya (commander of armies of devtas). Something similar happened with Murugan.
The peacock element of Krishna is also derived from the Yaudheya symbolism.
