There's famous quote of Kissinger saying "It's a pity both sides can't lose."
It was said in the context of iraq-iran but truth is that in war both sides do indeed lose. And guess what is hidden from this quote's context “He suggested ‘the continuation of fighting between Iran and Iraq was in the American interest.".
Here it is. Be it world war - 2, korean wars, indian pakistan wars, middle eastern war. Pretty much every party which is in direct conflict with each other loses and lost. Europeans lost their advantage, soviet suffered irreversible catastrophe, koreans were separated and turned into vassals of china and usa in particular. Indian subcontinent was fractured and pakistan was turned into the outpost of the imperial powers.
In latest ukraine - russian war, both sides are losing, europe is losing and only countries like Americans or maybe chinese are gaining.
This statement is another kayfabe hiding the fact that yes indeed both sides were losing and there were some hidden clear winners. It was americans.
