Apart from being coastal state, imho it's big failure that Kerala had deep sea port before Tamil Nadu got one.
But good thing is that proliferation of economic hub, not over dependence on just once city unlike MH over Mumbai, Karnataka over Bengaluru.
Chennai is that's why not comparable to rest of the tier 1 cities but the amount of tier 2 and tier 3 economy centers are what makes TN unique and successful.
Another thing is difference in mentality, in northern state they will do corruption but not work. In TN it's you can work just provide the politicians and babus their cuts.
It has its issues but it's better than northern counterparts.

Yes, people have a lot more disposable income. Cafes, theatres, expensive restaurants, etc see a lot more customers now. Things viewed as richfag stuff are getting more commonplace.

The biggest difference would be urbanisation. Many people are moving from rented houses/wooden huts/slums to their own decently sized concrete houses. My area is in the outskirts of a random tier 2 town, but even here, the residential areas have massive houses, a couple super rich ones with even swimming pools and security guards and shit. And this area was quite deserted with barely any houses when we first moved here about a decade ago.

if you are referring to the dravidian movement, it was a pan south indian movement where all obcs of different states joined together for upward mobility. It had nothing to do with what happened to tamils in other state, in fact the movement predates it by decades
