A ban on animal slaughter would be better, if you ask me. A ban on firecrackers just to mess with the celebration of the largest Hindu community on one day of the year is way out of line. Don't argue that we didn't have firecrackers when Bhagwan Shri Ram came back to Ayodhya. It's a way we have been celebrating for a very long time. Firecrackers are burst on Christmas, New Year.

Firecrackers are used because it makes sound and give off light.
Sound to drive away दरिद्रता/poverty and light to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. In current day and age there are many things which can replace firecrackers if you are using it for these 2 things specifically but yes it has become a significant part of Indian festivals and celebrations
