How to use UPI on rooted phone?

Is it possible? Not a fan of UPI due to privacy concerns. I still prefer cash and use debit card to pay bills etc. but some gobarmint sites are so shitty that card payment gateway isnt even functional. UPI always works fine somehow because bhangi gobarmint has been focusing on it only. My phone is rooted and degoogled. I mostly use FOSS barring whatsapp in sandbox which i only use because everyone else is on it including official college groups. I never felt the need for shitty apps like digilocker, gmail or bank apps because i can always login into the web version with my privacy hardened browser. But it seems like UPI is necessary. Is there any workaround that you guys have used.

I saw somewhere on plebbit that it was still possible, is it not? They said it gave warnings but you can proceed as normal after closing it.

Why don't you have an alternate cheap smartphone for only payment apps ?
