Jatt is just punjabi variation of jaat. Hindu jats live in haryana and jatts(mostly sikh) live in punjab. Muslim jatts live in paki punjab. Haryanvi jats and punjabi jatts have their own separate clans different from one another. Jat likely means 'commoner, villager' a descriptor applied them as they have historically been farmers and have formed the largest caste population in their respective states.
