In padmavat, Khilji basically married what was his cousin, however that is not really the taboo given the societal norms at the time in context. I would feel the same was it not the fact that MC tries his best to avoid this situation and it is just overall unfortunate. I think the core focus here was despite the age gap, which would normally prevent attraction in such manner, both turned out this way
