I agree that Saraswat Brahmins are real and are likely one of the oldest branches due to density of Iranian Herders who married to onge to form the IVC. However Mohyals subcaste Saraswat have non aligning haplogroups (ydna), as well as scripturally the other Saraswat, Kanyakubja and even Gujara Brahmins tend to not take any of the seriously, refuting their Brahmin status.
It could be because Mohyals were the first few people to align with Hussain, making the Mohyal subservient to a Mleccha lowborne. At the same hand it could be simply due to them being from high caste families who were not Brahmins in the first place, since they have no history of a priestly duty. Mohyal are historically one of very few Brahmins who didn't know and still do not know how to conduct any rituals of their own that is not borrowed from other Saraswats.
It's just one of those things that is not said out loud, such as Jaats not being Dwija due to them having mixed lineage, same for Gujjars, or how the Bhumihars are clearly Kshatriyas in both their culture and practice as well as lineage, or how Khatris are actually low caste and have nothing to do with actually upper caste, or how dalits are not Shudras and Shudras are not Avarnas since stating these leads to clash in internal dynamics

Khatris are low caste though, they used to clean shoes of other castes, and actually were lower than chamars historically. Probably due to a lot of them being Migrants from and to afghan, they were al not even Hindus initially.
Naturally they learned their place pretty fast in Hindu society. This is also why they converted to Sikhi, since they did not want the status of low borne to pass on. Partially the conflict between Chamar and Khatri families originate because Chamars did dominate them in past. Making the Khatrin men bitter.
